The 25mm f/2.8 Distagon has enough peculiarities that its behavior should be understood and in alignment with the goals of the photographer prior to purchase. In particular, this means its close-up performance and curvature of field.
The 25mm Distagon offers very pleasing image quality. It can be picked apart on a technical basis in comparison to other lenses, but shots taken with it have a liveliness not seen with lenses like the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II, a difference this reviewer repeatedly observes when viewing images taken with it. Photographers seeking very high overall image quality with “personality” will be very pleased with the 25mm Distagon, so long as the field curvature is understood. Actual contrast on real “3D” images can be truly world-class.
The f/2.8 design reduces the appeal of the lens significantly for shooting in low light. Those looking for an f/2 lens might consider the 28mm f/2 Distagon, which sacrifices only a little angular coverage for much greater ease of focusing, and offers much more viable performance for dusk and interior shooting where lighting is limited.
А вот что по поводу цейсов вообще:
The main disappointments in the ZF line include color fringing (25mm and 28mm Distagons) and impaired close-focus performance (25/2.8 Distagon, 50/1.4 Planar and 85/1.4 Planar). And of course curvature of field with the 25/2.8 and 28/2.
Photographers seeking bitingly-sharp imaging across a flat field at all focusing distances and apertures with no color aberrations and few “surprises” should restrict their choices to the 35/2 Distagon and the Makro-Planars.
